Deterring Geese from Taking Over Your Property

Ohio Geese Control was interviewed by Joe at WKYC’s Good Company, and what a great time Jeff and Joe had talking about geese and the humane and effective tactics that we employ to deter them. You can see the full interview here.

In Ohio, Canada geese are everyone and can cause a lot of problems everywhere they go. In the fall you can have a clean property one day, and look out the window the next day and see over 100 geese loafing. Considering every goose produces about 1-2 pounds of droppings a day, you do not want them staying. Ohio Geese Control has a solution for you, and this is what Jeff spoke to Joe about on Good Company.

Best Tactic to Deter Geese: Border Collies

By now, geese have completed their molting and now they are ready to fly. So when our fall season starts, our border collies are ready to get to work. With over 20 years of experience, we have found that the physical chase of a live threat is the most effective way to get rid of geese on your property. With our services, we are introducing a live threat onto your property which will persuade the geese that there is a predator on site.

Border collies are perceived as predatores

Our border collies are highly trained. The dog handlers have complete control over the dogs. They will instruct them to get out of the vehicle and the dogs know they are to look for the geese. Once they see them they will lock on with their wolf-like glare, and begin to stalk the geese upon the command of the dog handler. The border collies will walk-up in a slow and methodical way that greatly resembles a predator stalking it’s prey. Upon command of the dog handler, the border collie will be released to give chase. Then the dog handler can call the dog back, or send them around the pond. Our dogs love their jobs. They love to run, and they love the praise we bestow upon them. The best part is, that it is humane, the geese are never harmed in the process. Border Collies natural instinct is to herd, not to destroy a goose, and our handlers and dogs are very well trained.. Take a look at our border collies in action.

Ohio Geese Control Services

We are often asked, what happens when the geese come back? Geese are territorial, so they will always want to come back to where they learned to fly. And if you have a beautiful manicured lawn with a water feature, it is too much for a Canada goose to resist. Ohio Geese Control works 7-days a week, it is an on-going service to make sure the geese know they are not welcome. We can dramatically lower the goose population quickly, then we come back 1 to 3 times a day to make sure the geese stay away. It is humane. It is safe. And it is effective.
