Goose Repellent Turf Treatment for Ohio Commercial Properties

When geese keep coming back to the same lawn

Geese often return to the same lawns to graze, leaving droppings where people use the grounds. Ohio Geese Control applies goose repellent turf treatment to selected feeding areas at eligible properties. We assess where the flock gathers, then schedule applications around mowing and normal site activity. The goal is to make those familiar feeding spots less appealing so geese choose somewhere else to eat.

How our turf treatment works

Our turf treatment creates two signals geese learn to avoid. Treated grass presents a visual cue that geese can perceive. If they eat it, they experience temporary digestive discomfort. Over time, the birds associate the treated area with an unpleasant feeding experience and look for another place to graze.

This is a humane, non-lethal way to discourage feeding. It does not work by trapping geese or preventing them from landing. Some birds may still walk through or rest on the property, especially while they are learning to avoid the treated turf.

Where turf treatment fits

This service is designed for label-eligible turf at commercial and industrial properties, areas on or adjacent to airports, cemeteries, and certain managed waste sites. Offices, hospitals, retail sites, and manufacturing properties are examples of places where treatment may fit.

We focus on grass with repeated feeding and droppings rather than assuming the entire property needs treatment. The product used for this service is not labeled for residential turf. We also work with HOAs and can assess their common areas to determine which geese management services fit the site. Contact us for more info.

What to expect from our service

1. We assess the property
Our team looks at feeding patterns, droppings, nearby water, and the places you most need to keep usable. We also discuss the mowing schedule and how people use the grounds.
2. We plan and apply the treatment
Application is scheduled for dry turf when rain is not expected. Mowing and clearing clippings or debris beforehand helps the treatment stay on the grass blades. Our team applies it to the selected turf with a hand sprayer and coordinates access while the grass dries.
3. We adjust to what the geese do next
Geese need time to experience the treated grass and change their habits. We consider activity, droppings, seasonal movements, and mowing when recommending follow-up treatment. Frequent mowing removes treated leaf surfaces, so timing matters more than a blanket promise of a fixed number of days.

A useful tool during molting season

Each summer, adult Canada geese molt their flight feathers and cannot fly for several weeks. They still need to feed, which can keep them close to familiar lawns. Our turf treatment gives us a way to make priority turf less appealing while the birds are grounded.

Seasonal conditions shape the plan. During nesting and gosling periods, geese may not be able to leave a property entirely. We may focus treatment on the places people need most and identify a lower-conflict area where birds can feed until they are able to move on.

What about people and pets?

Ohio Geese Control plans and applies our turf treatment according to its manufacturer’s label. People and pets must stay out of treated turf during application and until the product has completely dried. We coordinate timing with the property team so access can be managed.

The product is applied to eligible turf, not sidewalks, parking lots, or patios. It is not approved for residential lawns. These use rules are why a site assessment and a properly timed professional application matter.

Part of a Complete Geese Management Plan

Turf treatment can be a standalone service or part of a broader program. For some properties, Ohio Geese Control combines our turf treatment service with visits from our trained Border Collies and other methods selected for the site. The treatment makes familiar feeding areas less rewarding, while the rest of the plan addresses the flock’s behavior and the features drawing it back.

We recommend the combination based on the property, the season, and the level of goose activity. Our goal is a practical, humane plan for the areas your staff, visitors, and customers use.

Questions about goose repellent turf treatment

Will the treatment stop geese from landing?

No. It is intended to discourage feeding on treated grass. Geese may still land, walk across the site, or rest there. If those behaviors are a concern, we can discuss other parts of a management plan.

How soon should we expect a change?

Geese need to encounter the treated turf and learn from it. Some may remain for the first few days. Results vary with the flock, the site, and other available food sources.

Does the entire lawn need to be treated?

Not necessarily. We assess where geese are feeding and where droppings show repeated use, then recommend the turf areas to treat.

When can people and pets use the lawn again?

Only after the application has completely dried. We coordinate access and timing with your property team.

What about rain and mowing?

We apply to dry turf when rain is not expected and allow the treatment to dry before the area reopens. Mowing removes some of the treated grass blade, and new growth changes coverage, so the mowing schedule affects follow-up planning.

How often is it applied?

That depends on goose activity, seasonal movement, and turf maintenance. We recommend a schedule for your property rather than promising that one application will last a set number of days.

Can our turf treatment be used on a home lawn?

No. Its label prohibits use on residential turf. Contact us to discuss other geese management options for a residential property.
