FOX 8 Features Ohio Geese Control

We were featured on FOX 8 this week, and we are excited to share why this project matters. Ohio Geese Control has been hired by the Village of Chagrin Falls to help discourage the growing geese population from settling in the Riverside Park area, with a focus on safety, cleanliness, and keeping the park welcoming for residents and visitors.

Why Riverside Park is taking action

Canada geese are a natural part of Ohio’s environment, but when a flock grows and concentrates in one place, it can create real challenges for public spaces. Excess droppings on walkways and lawns, aggressive behavior during nesting season, and the general wear on high-use areas can quickly turn a beautiful park into a difficult one to enjoy. The Village’s goal is simple: encourage geese to relocate to more appropriate habitats that are farther from heavy foot traffic and community events.

What we are doing at the park

Our approach is humane, non-lethal, and rooted in understanding goose behavior and habits. Starting Tuesday, February 10, our team will be visiting Riverside Park seven days per week, one to three times per day depending on goose activity.

We are also using this project as a training and education opportunity. You may see our dog Jenny working with our certified handlers as we reinforce consistent, safe routines on site. Consistency matters. When geese learn that a location is not a comfortable place to loaf, graze, or roost, they are much more likely to move along and choose quieter areas.

Why border collies work so well

Border collies are not harming geese. They are doing what they were bred to do: use focused eye contact, posture, and controlled herding pressure to influence movement. That “wolf-like gaze” and natural herding instinct communicates one clear message to geese: “This is not a safe place to settle.”

Over time, this changes the pattern. The goal is not a one-time chase. The goal is to make Riverside Park a less attractive home base, so geese stop returning and stop building the daily routine that leads to long-term population buildup.

What to expect if you see us at Riverside Park

If you visit the park while we are working, here are a few helpful things to know:

  • Our dog and handler will be clearly identifiable, including bright orange safety vests, and our vehicle will be marked.
  • The dog will remain on-leash when people are present in the area.
  • Please give our team a little space to work, and keep your own dogs leashed and at a respectful distance.
  • Do not feed the geese. Feeding encourages geese to stay, and it makes long-term deterrence much harder.

This program will be evaluated over time to measure effectiveness and ensure it continues to meet the City’s goals.
